Please ensure that your smartphone's time is automatically synchronized and correctly set before setting up a TOTP. The time-based code is calculated and verified based on the current time.

How to activate the Multi-Factor-Authentification: Click on your user abbreviation and then on Edit my account in the main menu. Click on 2-Factor-Authentification.

1. Install one of the following authentifcation apps on your smartphone or mobile device: Authy, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator

You can also use other authentification apps according to your preference. Any app which supports a Time-based One-time Password (TOTP) will work.

2. User the authentification app on your smartphone or mobile device to scan the QR code which appears on your screen.
3. You will then receive a 6-digit code from your authentification app which changes every 30 seconds. Enter this code and click on the green button "activate 2FA account".

After these three steps you can log in to the LDB with your user name, password, and the code from the authentification app (i.e. 123456). This option provides a much higher level of data security against external threats as opposed to your username and password alone.

Should 2FA prove too inconvenient it is always possible to deactivate this setting and revert to password protection only.
