Example: Weighing in and weighing out

The starting material (initial weight) of a reaction or an analytical determination is weighed. The end product is weighed as a balance. Depending on the method and starting substance, the difference in weight between the initial weight and the final weight allows various conclusions to be drawn.

To calculate this example, the difference in weight between weighing in and weighing out is determined and the result is given as a percentage.

To do this, the weighed-out weight is divided by the weighed-in weight and the result is multiplied by 100. The measured values for weighing in and weighing out include the mass of the tray. In the stored formula, the mass of the shell is taken into account by subtracting it in each case.

In mathematical notation, the formula is as follows:

((weighing out - tray ) / (weighing in - tray)) * 100 = Result

((11,85 -11,20 ) / (21,90 - 11,20)) * 100 = 6,07

In the LDB, the abbreviation of the parameter whose value is used for the calculation and the number of the column in which the respective measured value is located is specified.

Result = ['Einw_Ausw']['0']
Tray = ['Einw_Ausw']['1']
Weighing in = ['Einw_Ausw']['2']

  • Weighing out* = ['Einw_Ausw']['3']

These components of the LDB notation are combined with the mathematical formula notation.
This results in the following formula in the LDB notation:

((m['Einw_Ausw']['3'] - m['Einw_Ausw']['1']) / (m['Einw_Ausw']['2'] - m['Einw_Ausw']['1'])) * 100

The m stands for matrix notation for using the parameter columns.

The formula is stored in the formula field of the column in which the result is to appear.

You can access the mask for entering formulas by clicking on the name of the parameter written in blue, e.g. Weigh-in_Weigh-out.

You can find further details under Deposit formulas with parameters.
