LIMS for accredited and regulated laboratories

What laboratory and quality managers say about LDB:

Save time & avoid errors

The AI-assisted import interface saves us time and prevents errors. Reports from external laboratories are automatically imported into the LIMS as structured data.

Starting point: time-consuming manual entry of external drinking water analyses.
Solution: import PDF tables directly into the LIMS using the AI-assisted import interface.
Benefits: fewer transcription errors, faster processing and no IT effort.

LIMS user Dr. Caroline Indorf

We have been working together since 2018 and could not imagine a better LIMS partner – in my view, their innovation, spirit and technology platform lead the industry.

During our final DAkkS audit, I had the opportunity to show the auditor some of the capabilities of our LIMS. I would like to pass on her exact words: “I am really impressed!” This was mainly in relation to the audit trails and limit value tables.

We are up and running, and working with the LIMS from LDB LIMS is tremendous fun. Everyone is experimenting, getting involved and rethinking processes – incredible!

Why LDB

Why labs choose LDB:

Customer:

“We programmed our LIMS ourselves. The colleague who maintained it is retiring—updates such as e-invoicing and new interfaces can’t be implemented, and support is no longer available.”

Testing laboratory with in-house development
Replace legacy systems & reduce IT risks

When support ends, security vulnerabilities remain or an update becomes a complete reimplementation, a LIMS becomes a business risk. A modern LIMS prepares you for the future.

"Laboratory data is manually entered into extensive Excel spreadsheets."

Process laboratory, chemical industry
Replace scattered data with a central structure

Instead of Word, Excel and folders: all samples, measurements, documents and reports in one system – clearly identified and easy to find at any time.

"Changes to data cannot be tracked—which poses a compliance risk for us."

Quality Control Laboratory, Oil Processing
Build confidence in audits & accreditation

Traceability, audit trails, roles, permissions and versioning give you peace of mind before audits and confidence in meeting ISO requirements.

"We always have to rely on a coworker to pull data."

Municipal water utility
Reduce workloads & retain skilled staff

Automated workflows reduce copying and pasting and tasks outside employees’ areas of expertise. Your team can return to the work they were hired to do.

"Typing errors lead to rework, blocked batches, and recalls."

Refinery Operations
Prevent errors & standardise processes

Reliable processes instead of manual transcription errors: consistent workflows, valid data and reproducible results.

"A 10 to 20 percent increase in samples per year is pushing our Excel systems to their limits."

Environmental Analytics Contract Laboratory
Support growth & new requirements

Whether you are starting a new laboratory, adding analytical methods or integrating systems such as an ERP, the LIMS provides a structured, scalable foundation.

Commercial systems are also affected

This issue affects more than just in-house developments. In recent years, two commercial LIMS providers have discontinued their systems and offered the switch as a migration. Other older products face the same decision: either completely redevelop them or discontinue them for security reasons. For laboratories, this means one thing above all else—determining the timing of the switch themselves, rather than having it dictated to them.

What is a LIMS?

ERP for production, CRM for sales—a LIMS for the lab. LIMS stands for Laboratory Information and Management System: laboratory software that tracks a sample’s entire journey, from registration to the final test report, and makes every step in between traceable.

For ISO 17025-accredited laboratories, DAkkS requirements must also be met—requirements that can no longer be fulfilled with Excel and paper at a reasonable cost: complete traceability of all changes, controlled access rights, and verifiable validation of the software used. A LIMS system must not only meet these requirements technically but also be able to demonstrate compliance during an audit.

AI in the Lab—Controlled Rather Than a Black Box

AI is now mentioned in almost every software brochure. For an accredited laboratory, however, something else is crucial: which models are used, who is authorized to use them, and whether it remains traceable afterward where they were involved.

All the leading models, one interface

Gemini from Google, ChatGPT from OpenAI, Claude from Anthropic, and Mistral from Europe—all integrated into the Lab database and continuously updated with new models. This means the right model is available for every use case, rather than you being limited to just one.

GeminiChatGPTClaudeMistral

Managed, controlled, traceable

For an accredited laboratory, it’s not the strength of the model that matters, but control over it. Four points that ensure this:

  • You determine which models your employees are even allowed to use.
  • You grantAI access rights individuallyfor each employee or for the entire lab.
  • Your data is not used to train the models—this is contractually prohibited, and data is transmitted and stored in encrypted form.
  • Every AI action is logged in the audit trail, including the user and a timestamp—so that audits can trace where AI was involved.

Updates That Won't Catch You Off Guard

A LIMS is not a project with an end date. How the system evolves—and how you can find out about it before it happens.

Updates are pre-validated

All configured validation tests run automatically once a week and additionally before every update—each time against both the existing and the new version. Each run is permanently saved as a PDF validation report.

Frequently asked questions about LDB LIMS and LIMS software

LIMS stands for Laboratory Information and Management System. A LIMS system is laboratory software that maps the entire path of a sample – from registration through analysis to the finished test report – and makes every step in between traceable. For accredited laboratories the requirements of ISO 17025 are added: complete traceability of all changes, controlled access rights and demonstrable validation of the software in use.
Laboratory software is the umbrella term for any program used in day-to-day lab work, from instrument control to evaluation. A LIMS is the laboratory software that brings everything together: samples, orders, results, instruments, documents and test reports in one system and on one data basis. The difference lies less in individual functions than in continuous traceability across the whole sample path.
With LDB LIMS you pay €99 per user per month, AI integration included. On top of that comes a user-independent flat rate for cloud operation from €350 per month. One-off costs for provisioning and implementation depend on the size and complexity of your laboratory. All items and a price calculator are openly available on our pricing page – we do not keep prices behind a form.
LDB LIMS is a cloud-based LIMS. It runs on Amazon AWS in Frankfurt, distributed across three availability zones. There are two operating models: the Standard Cloud Service and the Enterprise Cloud Service with unlimited storage and an SLA with guaranteed response and recovery times. Backups are incremental by the second and complete once a day.
Yes. You get your own cloud-based demo system in the browser, and using it is free of charge. Plan around 90 minutes for the demo appointment: 60 minutes guided tour through the system and 30 minutes for your questions. You get the most out of it if you send us at least one test report, one worksheet and export files from your instruments beforehand – anonymised is fine. We start by setting up three people with login details.
We calculate the implementation in packages of two, four or six months. Which one fits depends on the number of modules, the complexity of your test reports and the number of instruments to be connected. Our experience comes from more than 200 LIMS implementations. After the start the onboarding workshops continue: around 45 minutes per module and free of charge for all users.
Yes. Audit trail, controlled access rights, document control, test equipment management and a competence matrix are part of the LIMS. There is a dedicated ISO 17025 package for accreditation and a pharma package for GxP-regulated laboratories. LDB LIMS itself is certified to ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 and additionally meets the requirements of the NIS2 Directive.
You connect instruments and external laboratories through import interfaces, and you create the import mapping with AI support in just a few clicks. In addition there is the SHAPTH interface for drinking water data: it replaces the previous regional formats such as TEIS, TWISTweb, SEBAM, LabDüs, Octoware and NiWaDaB and becomes mandatory for approved testing bodies on 1 January 2027.
57 % of our customers had no professional LIMS before, but Excel, Word, Access or paper. Switching pays off above all where proof obligations come into play: complete traceability of every change, controlled access rights and validatable software can no longer be achieved with spreadsheets at reasonable effort.
Behind every module there is a dedicated contact person with their own laboratory experience – not a ticket number, but a name. Our prices are openly available on the website. You adapt test reports and documents yourself instead of buying in every change. And updates arrive predictably, with announced release dates and user calls, instead of taking you by surprise.
