LDB LIMS sampling planning

As a central LIMS, LDB supports contract laboratories across water management and hygiene, including drinking water, wastewater and bathing water, as well as municipal utilities and water suppliers. It covers order management and sampling planning, checks entries against limit values and produces test reports, inspection reports and expert assessments. Ready-made interfaces such as SHAPTH are available for transferring data to regional and public health authorities.

  • Plan orders and sampling
  • Accreditation-compliant test reports with automated text
  • Inspect and monitor test equipment
  • Plan consumables and ensure traceability
  • Submit reportable results via the SHAPTH interface (replacing LabDüs, NiWaDab, Octoware, Teis, Twistweb, Sebam and others)
  • Automate invoicing and connect financial accounting systems such as DATEV

On 8 February, during our final DAkkS audit, I had the opportunity to show the auditor some of the features of our food laboratory LDB. I would like to pass on her exact words: “I am really impressed!” This was mainly about the audit trails, limit value tables and assessment options.

Frequently asked questions from environmental laboratories choosing a LIMS:

You can create report templates with specific labels such as “preliminary” or “interim findings”, for example as a large grey watermark across each page. These can be customised as needed.
The customer portal lets you view historical findings, request new samples and track the status of your orders. Customers can also view their results and download reports.
Legacy data can be imported. We generally import customers, orders, results and reports. We help you review the structure and link the relevant data.
You should assign a team that can actively participate in workshops and training throughout the implementation period. We recommend allowing at least eight hours per week for key users.
Implementation generally takes around six months, depending on the complexity of your requirements and the number of workshops.
LDB is commercial off-the-shelf software for general use, validated for use within its intended scope. We also support the validation of critical areas and provide a validation module, for example for formulas and calculations.
Our data are stored in certified data centres with multiple security measures, including triple redundancy, backups every second and regular audits by TÜV Rheinland (ISO 27001).
A stable internet connection is required to use the system. We recommend a backup connection or mobile devices so that you can continue entering data if your main connection fails. The audit trail also shows the most recently saved entries.
There are four updates per year. Updates include both functional improvements and technical updates.
Your data are always available on your own premises. You can automatically download and back up the database regularly to ensure that you retain access to your data, whatever happens.
