The AI Explorer is integrated directly into LDB and appears in the menu at the top right of every page. In the sample view, for example, you can ask the AI a question about that specific sample: “Summarise this sample’s results and check whether the measurements are plausible.” The AI knows the sample’s context, including master data, parameters, measurements, target values and order, and provides answers within seconds directly alongside the sample.
The same approach works on every other LDB page. For a customer, you could ask “Which orders did this customer complete last year?”; for test equipment, “When is the next calibration due?” This context-aware approach turns LDB into your personal AI assistant, handling repetitive research and answering complex questions clearly.
The quality of an AI answer depends critically on the context it receives as background information. We have placed a strong emphasis on context engineering: automatically giving the AI exactly the data and additional information relevant to each record type. Context engineering means designing an AI system to receive “the right information in the right format” for a task. Reliable answers require the right context.
That is why LDB includes a tailored context package for each record type. For a sample query, for example, the AI receives parameters, measurements, limit values, sample notes and related order data as background information. For a customer query, the context may include order history, contact people and open activities. This context is assembled dynamically and automatically in the background as you compose your question. The result: the AI “knows” what you are referring to, giving you precise, high-quality answers instead of generic output. This detailed context preparation sets our AI integration apart from simple AI demos: the main difference between an ordinary chatbot and the AI Explorer is the quality of the context provided.
Transparency is essential to the AI Explorer. We want you to have full confidence in LDB’s AI integration. Before context data are sent to the AI model, we list them with checkboxes for your approval.
The user’s access rights are taken into account, and only data the user has permission to read are suggested. This preserves LDB’s access controls when using AI and keeps you in full control of your data.
In LDB, each AI chat is saved in context with its record and user. Imagine you have a series of questions about a sample: first, “Which measurements for this sample fall outside the target values?”, then “What could be causing this?” The AI Explorer saves the conversation directly with that sample. Even weeks later, you can open the sample and view the saved chat history, including every question, context item and AI response. You can continue with further questions or start a new chat about the sample.
A persistent chat history for each record has major benefits. It supports documentation: you and your colleagues can always review what the AI said about a particular matter. It also supports teamwork. If a laboratory manager has used AI to analyse an order, a colleague can later read and continue that conversation instead of asking the same questions again. Knowledge and insights remain available where they belong: alongside the relevant record in the system.
We provide practical example questions, especially for people using AI for the first time. Each page offers predefined questions relevant to that record type. Click one, and the AI Explorer answers using the context data for the record.
For a material, an example might be “Which batches of this material will expire soon?” This shows how the AI extracts information from the data and uses it to answer. For a customer record, an example could be “List this customer’s most recently completed orders.” These one-click questions make it easier to get started and quickly demonstrate what you can ask the AI.
The example questions are carefully selected and continuously expanded to provide value and cover common use cases. This helps every user access AI easily and achieve useful results straight away.
