The Reporting module is Labordatenbank’s toolkit for creating custom views, dashboards, metrics, exports, and integrations from your lab data—build them once and run them on live data whenever you need them. Technically, each report is a saved SQL query against your database, with settings that determine where it appears (dashboard, navigation bar, sample overview, customer portal) and how the results are delivered (HTML table, PDF, Excel/CSV/JSON, email, HTTP, SFTP). This reflects Labordatenbank’s guiding principle: collect, organize, and make lab data accessible—and put it to use with custom reports.
The Reporting module is designed for power users, LIMS administrators, department heads, and quality managers—the people who provide or export important data, views, and KPIs for themselves, staff, decision-makers, regulatory authorities, or customers.

Typically, a few people in the lab create reports, while many use them: staff see their worklists and dashboard tiles, management receives metrics by email or on a dashboard, and customers see released results in the customer portal.

Search finds records, and the Statistics module provides predefined quality metrics, time series, and trends. Reporting lets you build everything beyond that: custom views, dashboards, exports, and integrations.

Create new views, specialized searches, dashboards, and content for release in the customer portal; send data to external tools; export to CSV, Excel, JSON, and PDF; control label printers and measuring instruments; commission testing from external labs; and embed SQL tables and charts in test reports.

  • New views—combine data into worklists and status lists
  • Specialized searches—samples, orders, reports; links and redirects
  • Dashboards—user-specific KPIs with links
  • Content release for the customer portal
  • Data transfer to external tools—for example, JSON over HTTPS
  • Data export, delivery, and access—CSV, Excel, JSON, PDF
  • Label printing and measuring instruments—CSV over SFTP
  • Test orders for external labs—CSV, Excel, or PDF by email
  • Query results in report tables—SQL-based report tables, charts, and columns

No. Reports in Labordatenbank are written in SQL—the standardized query language used to query virtually any database in the world. It’s a tool for querying data, not programming.

It is somewhat technical—and that’s exactly what makes it a good fit for our audience: analytical people who want to understand their data. You don’t need to master SQL: the AI-powered Query Explorer generates queries from questions in everyday language, templates can be applied with a click, and a guide with an introductory course and practice examples helps you get started. Still, it’s worth knowing that this tool exists—it has been an ISO standard since 1987 (ISO/IEC 9075), and learning how it works opens up many possibilities. Our Reporting onboarding sessions are led by a food chemist and a chemical laboratory technician who aren’t programmers but have learned to use these tools.
